our team paddler Palo Andrassy take a break here in Europe and he went to Canada for a year mission.. here is first report from him:
In the middle of April, after long winter in Calagary, we packed all our staff to minivan and set off for some paddling in Canada and US. Our trip started in Fernie with nice water levels and perfect weather. According to locals it is usually snowing in Fernie in April, but we had 20 degrees and sunshine. Winter without paddling was hard to survive but after few laps on river Elk we felt reborn again.
Next stop was nothing else than mighty Little White Salmon. Here we spent one week paddling on Little White and White Salmon every day. On the end of the week I took part on Little White race. Water was low and the lines were super hard to remember. I did well on most of the rapids but did big mistake on the last drop and ended on 9th place. Gerd Sarrassolses had the fastest time, closely followed by Rush Sturges and Dane Jackson.
After race we returned back to Canada where we met with Honza Musil and other kayakers. Water levels around Revelstoke where already too high but more south we found nice rivers with good water. Weekend was coming and it was time for Ashlu releasing. Few years ago BC Hydro build a dam on Ashlu but thanks to paddlers who fought hard for this river we can still experience beautiful paddling through box canyon of Ashlu.
Time was running fast in Whistler siphon and it was time for Go Fest and its part Cheakamus extreme race. I was lucky on this race with double gold from downriver time trial and Boatercross.
After 5 weeks on the road I can say we experienced Canadian paddling at its best. Good weather, nice rivers, new friends and lot of fun..
